Safety First

Trauma-informed care is less a single technique and more a way of being in the therapy room. Emma Bourroux, AMFT works with clients in Encinitas and North County San Diego who have experienced harm, neglect, loss, violence, or any event that left their nervous system changed. The focus is never on pushing through pain; it is on restoring safety and agency.

How it works
Before any hard memory is explored, you build grounding skills, predictability, and a working relationship where you can say stop, slow down, or change direction.
Emma explains what she is doing and why, so you are never surprised by a technique or question. Consent is ongoing, not assumed.
You are the expert on your own experience. Trauma-informed care means Emma follows your lead and respects your pace, even when it is slower than either of you expected.
Trauma does not happen in a vacuum. Identity, family history, and systemic harm are honored as real parts of the story, not afterthoughts.
Healing from trauma is not about reliving the worst moments. It is about helping your body and mind believe the danger has passed. Emma will not rush that process.
