How Emma works

What therapy looks like here

Respecting What Helped You Cope

Emma approaches patterns with curiosity rather than blame. Sessions can explore how responses that once made sense fit your circumstances today.

A Collaborative Relationship

Trauma-informed care emphasizes choice and pacing. You can discuss boundaries in therapy and decide what you want to explore without pressure to share everything.

Present Needs and Old Stories

Narrative Therapy and DBT skills can support conversations about self-beliefs, emotions, and relationships. Your current goals remain part of the work even when you discuss the past.

You do not have to compare your childhood with anyone else’s to seek support. What you are experiencing now is worth discussing.

Early experiences may be relevant to how you feel about yourself and relate to others. You may also want to read about Trauma, Low Self-Worth / Self-Esteem, and Relationships.

Questions about Developmental Trauma

Do I need a diagnosis or a label for my childhood?
No. You do not have to prove your childhood was difficult enough. Sessions can start with what you notice now, such as trouble trusting, asking for help, or feeling responsible for other people’s moods.
Will we talk only about my family of origin?
Not only. Old patterns are discussed where they help, and your current relationships, work, and boundaries stay part of the work throughout.
Can I attend from elsewhere in North County San Diego?
