This May Sound Familiar

You do not need every one of these to benefit from therapy. One is enough.

  • Feeling on guard even in familiar situations
  • Avoiding reminders of a painful experience
  • Feeling distant from yourself or other people

How Emma works

What therapy looks like here

Choice and Pacing

Emma talks with you about what feels comfortable and what does not. You do not need to give a detailed account of an experience in order to begin discussing support.

Attention to the Present

Sessions can begin with current needs, relationships, and difficult moments. DBT skills may offer ways to explore distress and emotions before deciding whether to discuss more of the past.

More Than What Happened

Narrative Therapy makes room for your identity beyond a painful experience. Emma works collaboratively with the values and priorities you bring.

There is no requirement to tell everything at once. You can also read the Trauma & Grief page for information about support after loss.

Different experiences call for different conversations. Emma also offers information about Developmental Trauma, Sexual and Physical Abuse, and Trauma & Grief.

Questions about Trauma

Do I need to describe what happened?
No. You can begin with what is difficult now, such as sleep, trust, or feeling on guard, and decide later how much of the past you want to discuss. Emma keeps pacing and choice with you.
How do I know whether trauma-informed work is right for me?
You can ask about it directly at intake. Early sessions usually focus on steadiness and present needs, and you can slow down or stop at any point without having to explain yourself.
