This May Sound Familiar

You do not need every one of these to benefit from therapy. One is enough.

  • Startling easily, or feeling on guard in ordinary situations
  • Numbness, or long stretches where you feel far away from yourself
  • Avoiding places, people, or anniversaries tied to what happened
  • Grief that hits in waves months or years after a loss
  • Guilt about how you are grieving, or how fast others expect you to move on
  • Believing you should be over it by now

How Emma works

What therapy looks like here

Safety Before Story

You will never be asked to relive details to prove something is real. Early sessions focus on steadiness (grounding, sleep, support) so that talking about the hard parts does not overwhelm you.

Room for Grief That Does Not Follow the Rules

There are no stages you have to complete. Emma makes space for the anger, the relief, the laughing at the funeral, and the ordinary Tuesday that levels you.

Skills for the Hardest Moments

DBT distress tolerance gives you something to do when a wave arrives at work, in traffic, or in the middle of the night, instead of waiting it out alone.

Healing does not mean forgetting. It means the memory stops running your days. Emma will walk beside you at the pace you set.

If early experiences or abuse are part of what brings you here, Emma also offers support for Developmental Trauma, Sexual and Physical Abuse, and Trauma.

Questions about Trauma & Grief

Do I have to talk about the experience itself?
No. You can begin with what is difficult now, such as sleep, trust, or feeling on guard, and decide later how much of the past you want to discuss. Pacing stays with you.
How long does grief take?
There is no schedule to meet. Sessions make room for whatever shows up, including anger, relief, or a difficult ordinary day, and for the practical question of how to keep living with the loss.
Can I attend from elsewhere in North County San Diego?
Emma sees clients in Encinitas from throughout North County San Diego, including Carlsbad, Solana Beach, Del Mar, Leucadia, Cardiff-by-the-Sea, Olivenhain, and Rancho Santa Fe. Online sessions are available across California.
How do I ask about appointments or fees?
Call (619) 330-9500 or email intake@goodtherapysandiego.com. You can also use the contact form or read about sessions and fees. Please do not include private health details in an initial website inquiry.
